Instructions

Prep the Dough:
In a large bowl, mix warm water with salt. Slowly add the cornmeal while stirring with your hand or a spoon. Mix until smooth and lump-free. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes.

Shape:
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each into a ball, then flatten into discs about ½–¾ inch thick.

Cook (Pan-Fry or Air Fryer):

Pan Method: Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook arepas for 5–7 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

Air Fryer Method: Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Brush arepas lightly with oil. Cook in a single layer for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serve:
Slice open with a knife and fill with cheese, shredded chicken, avocado, or your favorite toppings. Serve warm.
